Introduction
Ever opened your glovebox only to find expired insurance papers, an old chocolate wrapper and a pen that does not work?
Been there – done that.
But over time, especially after a few tough breakdowns, unplanned road trips and chaotic traffic moments. I have fine-tuned my glovebox game.
This is all what I carry in my Tata Harrier Glovebox and why you probably should too.
1. Car Documents (Hard Copy + Digital Backup)
- RC (Registration Certificate)
- Valid Insurance (preferably comprehensive)
- Pollution Under Control (PUC)
- Driving License (photocopy)
Also stored digitally on DigiLocker and the mParivahan app.
2. Mini First Aid Kit
You never know when one will get a cut or your friend will get a headache mid-ride.
Includes:
- Band-aids
- Paracetamol
- Antiseptic wipes
- Cotton & tape
3. Flashlight
A small rechargeable torch, the perfect for flat tyres at night or inspecting leaks.
Tip: Use USB-rechargeable torches that fit in your door pocket.
4. Swiss Knife or Multi-tool
This is my glovebox MVP – It handles:
- Loose bolts
- Opening packaging
- Minor car fixes
- Random roadside emergencies
5. Dry Snacks + Water Pouch
Especially during long drives or traffic jams:
- A pack of glucose biscuits
- ORS sachets
- A sealed water bottle
6. Sanitizer + Face Mask + Tissues
COVID may have slowed down or gone however hygiene is forever. This trio is now non-negotiable in the Car Glovebox.
7. Notepad & Pen (One That Works)
Great for:
- Writing emergency contacts
- Sharing insurance info post-incident
- Doodling while waiting at a long toll
8. Old Phone with SIM (Charged Monthly)
I keep a basic Nokia-type phone with talk-time in case my smartphone dies or network fails. It is surprisingly useful in rural patches.
9. Emergency Contact Card
Lists names, numbers, blood types, allergies. Laminated and stored on the glovebox door.
You will thank yourself for this if anyone else drives your car.
My Daughter’s Favourite Addition
A tiny soft toy she placed there years ago.
“Dad, it watches the road when you forget to!”
It stays.
Final Thoughts
Your glovebox is not a junk drawer. It is your emergency drawer on wheels.
Take 15 minutes this Sunday, clean it up, and stock it smartly. It won’t change how your car performs but it might just change how well you handle a sudden moment on the road.
